Hi there,

I saw your blog post while I was doing a Blog Search, and I quote you on the buzz page - hope you don't mind!

And, uh, if you do mind, I can certainly remove your comments if you don't want them posted. Thank you for your superlative comments about LibraryThing, though. We try to be all about the people behind the machines. :-) And the books, of course.

Thanks,
Lindsey, Assistant LT Librarian

Thanks for the opportunity to share some of our thoughts with the community – keep the feedback coming! We are looking forward to working with our users along the way to get to get new and useful tools in place.

Arkham, that's very encouraging to hear! I'm hearing the same thing each time I speak to OCLC reps. With the growth of Web 2.0, users are expecting organizations/businesses to change according to the users' needs. Glad to hear it!

I just attended a presentation by someone who is very much involved in the WorldCat Local pilot project in Illinois, and from what she tells me, OCLC has been continuously making changes based on USER comment. I don't know how quickly these changes are made, but apparently they are taking user input very seriously.

Thanks for the link Heather! I'm glad that you've had a positive experience when you request changes, but I'm sure that end users would be unable to use this form. As a Reference librarian, I might be able to (after I dig through the AACR2 rules for an hour or two). It's too bad that we have to jump through so many hoops (finding the form, figuring it out, etc.) just to fix a problem. I also wonder how many patrons/Reference librarians try to report problems via WorldCat and give up after a few minutes. Hopefully this basic usability stuff will be fixed in the future. Thanks again for your comment!

Interesting post! My reference librarians tell me about errors they find in OCLC records--and I when I can correct the database immediately, I do so, and when I can't, I report it to OCLC all the time. (When I can correct & replace the record, it results in immediate correction of the database & is quickly reflected in worldcat.org.) OCLC has an error report form--I know it's hard to find (everything on their website is), but it's at:
https://www3.oclc.org/app/bibchg/
And, yes, the errors I report do get corrected quickly.
