On my way to work this morning, I listened to NPR’s story, “Iraq’s Cultural Curators Defy Sectarian Unrest.” It moved me to know that there are librarians and curators who knowingly stay in harm’s way in order to preserve their culture and its artifacts. Librarians in the US contine to fight against other (admittedly less mortal) threats to freedom, but I feel that we do it alongside librarians and curators everywhere, working to preserve humanity’s history for the future. Everyone’s future.
One more reason I’m proud to call myself a librarian.
